June 1st

It's been a little more than a month since I came home from school. Aaaaand I haven't done much since then. Surprise, surprise.

Clarification: I haven't done much to be productive.

See, coming home, my general goals were to a) start studying for the OAT, b) start a job I had lined up for me, and c) begin volunteering. I did start studying for the OAT - I've started reviewing trig and re-did a whole lot of basic algebra and polynomial worksheets from grade 9. The studying will have to pick up this month, though, if I wanna get the OAT written soon...

As for work, my sister's friend's mom, whom I had met several times before, was pretty set on hiring me at her husband's office as a receptionist. However, upon learning of the location of the office, my mom refused to let me work there because
  1. "it wasn't the field I was going into" - which is both true and false. The office is a medical one (a podiatrist's office); but I'm not particularly interested in podiatry. However, I do feel this was a wasted opportunity to get valuable working experience and another reference.
  2. "it's far away" - which is true. But my previous job was a bus ride and subway ride away from home, so I wasn't completely turned off by the distance factor. My plan was to drive to work, but unfortunately, I won't have a car available. I mean, there would be a car available for me, if my mom's beloved SmartCar was working, but because she hasn't bothered driving it for the past six months, its battery is dead and so she has to use the car that I would have been using instead...
  3. lastly, and her biggest issue, "it's in the Jane/Finch area" - which is true. Objectively true. But is the Jane/Finch area even an area of concern anymore? I haven't heard much about the area in a while, but maybe this is because I've been away from the GTA.
Volunteering has been delayed because I had to get my TB test done after I came back from school, but after getting that done, I realized that I also had to get bloodwork done to provide proof of varicella immunity (chicken pox). So I went to my doctor's to get my blood collected a few days ago, and now I'm waiting for the results...

Despite not being productive, I still feel like May's been busy... and it's mostly to do with my cousin's wedding because that meant a) preparing our house for relatives staying over, b) entertaining relatives, and c) shopping for a dress.

Don't laugh. Shopping for a dress took a lot of time because apparently, a budget of $40 for a decently nice, semi-formal dress is quite insufficient. In the end, I bought my dress two evenings before. My sister bought hers the morning of.

Because the wedding was downtown, and all adults were planning on drinking that evening, we made special transportation arrangements to get to the venue in style: we took a school bus. Yes. A school bus. My cousin's friend's mom is a school bus driver, so we asked her to drive us. It's kinda really silly but that's just how our family rolls (punny!). And it was also way cheaper than getting three limos.

The ceremony and reception took place at a restaurant in TIFF Bell Lightbox and it was pretty cool because it was on the sixth floor, so the view was pretty spectacular. Thankfully, the weather was amazing too.

I ruined the view, sorry.
So pretty.
Oh, fun fact: this was the first "white" wedding I'd ever been to. By "white", I mean "not-Asian".
I forgot to do this!!!!!! But such a cute idea.
Before the reception began, we all got to choose what we were having. I picked the cured salmon appetizer, and the arctic char.

Fancy modernistic plating wow.
And small portions omg.
I forgot to take a picture of dessert, because I was busy recording the bride and groom's speech on my phone while eating it... sigh. It was good though.

After that, and the bride and groom's first dance, the dance floor was open and so was the bar! It was my first night of *real* drinking and it wasn't too bad (except for that one shot I took, which might have been vodka. My cousin just handed it to me and he was pretty drunk, so I'll never know...).

The days after that were literally one family gathering after another, after another. I'm still trying to catch up on sleep.

I did one other really fun thing too, but I'll leave that for another post.

Hope you're doing well!
