Went to a 1D concert, again - One Direction - Thursday, August 20 @ The Rogers Center

So... I may be a bigger fan of One Direction than I was last year when I went to their concert. Not ashamed. I listen to the music I want to, biznatch.

Anyhow. My sister and I weren't planning to go again - the family friends we went with offered to buy us tickets again a while ago when the tickets first came out, but we passed. And then one of my sister's Facebook friends posted a status, selling her floor seat tickets. FLOOR. SEAT. TICKETS!!!

At first we were hesitant because the asking price was quite a bit more than I'd ever contemplate spending on entertainment, but we managed to get them for less than face value because the girl just wanted to get rid of them.

And so, we attended 1D's Toronto stop on their On The Road Again tour!

The opening act was Icona Pop. We missed half of it because we were late getting down to the Rogers Center, but their set was energetic. I'm not a huge fan of them though. 5SOS was so much better. They did have a presence though! During the changeover, the videos for She Looks So Perfect, Good Girls, and She's Kinda Hot played, and that pretty much almost made my whole night.

And then... they started...
(You'll have to tilt your head sideways for this because my phone screwed up.)

When we first got the tickets, we weren't told the row number. Yeah, the girl selling them to us neglected to tell us we were in the FOURTH ROW... of the back section. But STILL. The boys were probably less than 100 meters away (I'm terrible at estimating distances). And Louis was in charge with entertaining our side of the floor so that was a nice bonus for me. (but he's a dad, Yvonne, he's a DAD - NO SHUT UP)

Louis: Ten out of ten would bhang out with.

Our seats also had these lovely notes on them. I'm not sure if the boys wrote them themselves (some of them were typed), but the gesture was cute. And during the encore, everyone held them up for them while they sang You and I! It was such a beautiful moment; I was very, very, very close to crying.

***CORRECTION: The signs were actually part of a fan project; they were signs for the band, which is pretty sweet. Niall did address the signs too, when he came up for the encore alone. "'Thank you for staying with us'? Thank you for staying with us!" The moment was still really beautiful, nonetheless. It really shows the power of music and its effects on everyone.

But my absolute favourite part of the concert was when they sung Fireproof because a) IT'S MY FAVOURITE SONG ON FOUR and b) IT WASN'T ON THE SET LIST (that they posted on Spotify)! I took a video of it, but the audio is probably really crappy thanks to my singing wailing, as evidenced in this Snapchat I took during Night Changes.

Other songs performed that weren't on the set list were Drag Me Down, and Act My Age, in which Niall got jiggy with it.

As always, I was impressed by the lights!

They ended the concert off with Best Song Ever, just like last year. At the end, I was a smiley, sticky and sweaty mess.

In retrospect, the floor seats weren't that much better than the nosebleeds. Sure, we were closer to stage, but we weren't able to see them the entire time (ex. when they walked back to the main stage) and I was still relying on the big screens to see them up close. It was, however, a bit easier to dance and jump around because there was a bit more space between the rows than in the bleachers (and by a bit, I really mean a teeny bit). I think the best seats are at the sides. Maybe in the section up from floor. Just something to think about for next time...

Again, I regret not bringing my Canon. I used my phone to take pictures, and a lot of them came out blurry and just plain crappy. Oh well. The memories of the concert will live on in my heart... and in this post, as I will list some now:

  • Harry calling out a dude in the crowd for wearing headphones during the concert. ("Disgusting!")
  • Louis making faces and gestures at Niall while singing harmony in Through The Dark.
  • Louis and Liam's water fights.
  • Niall's crotch grab during Better Than Words UGHHH *combusts*
Alright, off to wallow in my concert withdrawl.
